SafeShip blocks customers from checking out when they enter a P.O. Box as their shipping address. Many carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes, which leads to failed deliveries, returns, and extra costs. SafeShip prevents these issues by prompting customers to use a street address instead.
SafeShip uses Shopify's checkout validation system to detect P.O. Box patterns in shipping addresses. When a customer tries to check out with a P.O. Box address, they see a friendly message asking them to provide a street address. No theme edits or code changes are required.
SafeShip detects common P.O. Box formats including: "P.O. Box", "PO Box", "POB", "Post Office Box", "P O Box", and similar variations. The detection works regardless of punctuation or spacing.
SafeShip is designed to minimize false positives. It specifically looks for P.O. Box patterns and does not block addresses that simply contain words like "Post" or "Box" in other contexts (e.g., "123 Post Road" or "456 Boxwood Lane").
Install SafeShip from the Shopify App Store. Once installed, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels > SafeShip PO Box Blocker. The app activates automatically after installation—no additional setup is required.
SafeShip costs $4.99 per month or $47.99 per year (save 20%), billed through your Shopify account. There's a free trial period so you can test it before committing.
Yes! You can customize the error message in Settings. The default is "We cannot ship to P.O. Boxes. Please enter a street address." but you can change it to match your store's tone and branding.
SafeShip works with all Shopify plans that support checkout validation (Shopify Plus, and standard Shopify plans with checkout extensibility). If you're unsure whether your plan is compatible, install the app and test with a trial order.
If you uninstall SafeShip, the checkout validation rule is automatically removed and P.O. Box blocking is disabled immediately. Customers will be able to check out with P.O. Box addresses again. Your subscription is cancelled automatically when you uninstall.
